Securely ON, Always ON

Securely ON, Always ON

For the second consecutive year, Veeam Software, the innovative provider of solutions that deliver Availability for the Always-On Enterprise, organized the VeeamOn event from 26 – 29 October in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Acquainted with the fact that IT spending is shifting to the cloud, it was never an easy journey for Veeam to become a service provider due to the lack of resources, billing methods, infrastructure and experience. Founded in 2006, Veeam has witnessed an exponential revenue and customer growth. With 1,950 employees worldwide and 168,000 customers in 200 countries, the company has built partnerships with over 34,500 resellers and partners - such as Cisco, EMC, HP, Microsoft, NetApp and VMware - and set a goal of $1 billion revenue by 2018.

Recent Q3 2015 results have proved once again that enterprises are embracing Veeam’s innovative approach of delivering holistic Availability solutions. Thus, when compared to Q3 2014, Veeam experienced 17% growth in quarterly revenue bookings, or an increase of 26% in constant currency. It has also witnessed 86% year-over-year revenue growth specifically for Veeam Availability Suite Enterprise Plus edition. Moreover, there has been a 49% revenue growth for all editions of Veeam Availability Suite; and a 23% year-over-year growth in orders specifically from enterprise customers.

This proves that CIOs today recognize that backup isn’t enough. They need availability solutions, and only Veeam has proven it can meet the Always-On demands of customers, employees and partners.

Veeam’s growth has not been limited to enterprise sales of Veeam Availability Suite. The cloud has also been a massive driver of Veeam’s success. For example, the Veeam Cloud Provider program reported an increase of 73% in the number of transactions year-over-year, and has more than 9,700 services and cloud providers as part of the program worldwide.

The event

Designed to connect the world’s leading IT experts and technology partners, VeeamOn 2015 attracted thousands of attendees including partners, customers and IT experts. Participants partook in keynote sessions, interactive conferences and visited the exhibition to learn more about the latest trends and get insights into Veeam’s latest additions to the market

During the general session for partners, everyone agreed that Veaam provides easy to use technologies while focusing on improving availability.

Daniel Fried, Senior Vice President, Worldwide Sales and Marketing, Veaam avowed that the need of enterprises is changing. “They need data,” he said. “Virtualization is becoming the new era in the way of handling applications.” He also affirmed that it is all about investments in the cloud, which is changing the landscape of customer’s needs.

Expressing his gratitude to all partners for their continuous support, Ratmir Timashev, CEO, Veeam Software said, “Partnerships are in Veeam’s DNA. Without you, our partners, we couldn’t have made it here; partnerships are what make us work.” He continued, “In all our activities, we aim to make our partners successful. All of us at Veeam are thankful to you for working with us for the last years as we have been building our company.”

Ratmir also announced the launch of New Veeam Managed Backup Portal for Service Providers, which enables partners to launch new services and accelerate cloud revenue opportunities.

This new offering provides the ideal foundation for service provider or partners to deliver value-added services to customers and drive competitive advantage. Veeam Managed Backup Portal for Service Providers, available through the Microsoft Azure Marketplace, streamlines the delivery of Veeam-powered backup services (including BaaS) for service providers, including resellers interested in launching a service provider business. It provides a “business-in-a-box” by including remote monitoring and management of customer backups via a service provider portal for administrative and billing purposes, and a customer portal for basic self-service monitoring and configuration.

At the Partners of the Future session, Darren Bibby, Program Vice President, Channels and Alliances Research, IDC, affirmed that organizations need to learn who their competitors are and pay special attention to cloud-born businesses.

He pointed out that IDC predicts 1/3 of the top 20 companies in every industry will be significantly disrupted by 3rd platform competitors by 2018. “We are moving from selling servers to selling services, hence from being broad to being specialized,” he stated. “As 70% of CIOs will embrace a cloud first strategy by 2018, these new services should be tailored to each enterprise.”

Darren also confirmed the shift from business outcome to business people as we are moving from selling IT ingredients to IT departments. He continued, “By 2016, Line of Business (LOB) executives will be involved in 80% of new IT investments."

Furthermore, the event witnessed the launch of the New Veeam Backup™ for Linux, which comes as a response to the lack of simple, easy ways to back up Linux VMs running in the public cloud, or those few remaining physical servers’ on-premises. Therefore, this free standalone agent delivers backup and recovery for Linux servers running in the public cloud, or on premises.

“Backing up and recovering Linux servers is often a complicated and costly process, frequently needing manual intervention or consuming too much of an IT administrator’s time,” said Doug Hazelman, Vice President of Product Strategy, Veeam. “Moreover, as hybrid cloud increasingly becomes the industry standard and more enterprises look to run more workloads in the public cloud, it is important to ensure that these public cloud server instances are backed up and can be recovered easily and quickly in order to ensure availability and avoid business disruption. The Veeam community has asked us for an easy to use tool to ensure the availability of their Linux cloud instances and restore them anywhere. We are not only meeting this need for them, but are also adding it to the Veeam portfolio of free tools for the IT community that solve real challenges.”

Commenting on the event in general Ratmir said, “VeeamOn this year is bigger and better than the previous edition. I was very pleased to see our partners fully supporting us and excited about the announcements that we made during the event.”

He continued by giving further details on the announcements. “The first announcement [New Veeam Managed Backup Portal for Service Providers] is primarily designed for our smaller resellers who want to provide additional services to their traditional services.” Backup is considered the key driver to use the cloud, and will trigger many customers to start using the cloud. “Some will use this offering for backup and disaster recovery and others for development,” he explained. “Largely established service providers do not need this product as they already have their own portal and have already integrated Veeam into their portal.”

“The second announcement [New Veeam Backup™ for Linux],” he said “allows customers to back up individual cloud instances and restore them on premises, or back up on premises and restore in the cloud.”

“Our company is known for its freemium model,” he added. “Thus, this is a free product for customers that have already started running their Linux machine in Amazon and want to back it up. This is our first steps towards providing solutions to back up from cloud back on premise.”

The CEO also acknowledged that enterprises are Veeam’s priority. “We see enterprises as a catalyst for growth in in the coming three years. Our main challenge is internal; it requires us to move from medium to large enterprises without breaking our successful sales and marketing engines that we built throughout the years. Disaster recovery is also something we look at. Veeam is well-positioned to define this market. Most of our customers do not have a disaster recovery plan, but they need it. We have large install base and a large ecosystem of partners that can deliver this service. Our resellers can adopt Veeam Cloud Connect, a separate component of our offerings, and start offering the services immediately."

Ratmir affirmed the company’s determination to help customers manage their data whether on premise or in the cloud.

With the evolving IT trends, customers are looking for Always-On technologies in order to sustain their competitiveness. This is because critical applications are moving into the modern data centers, thus organizations are looking for technologies like Veeam to keep the applications up and running and the business on.

Organizations today can verify the health of a backup through Veeam’s backup technology. “Fully automated in the background, Veeam will do a backup and restore all the virtual machines and check if there are any corruptions,” said Gregg Petersen, Regional Director, Middle East & SAARC, Veeam Software on the sidelines of the event. He added, “There is no other vendor that offers this fully automated service.”

Highlighting the recently launched Veeam Availability Suite v9, Gregg affirmed that this product simplifies backup storage management in difficult situations as well as includes a new storage capability that reduces the total cost of ownership of backup storage.

The adoption of virtualized technologies has probably doubled in the last four years in the Middle East, he explained. “Eventually, the region will be 100% virtualized. But, it will take a while before this happens.”

He continued, “Saudi Arabia was initially a slow market for us. However, we have witnessed growth rates there; it has been a successful market for us lately and we expect it to outperform the UAE market in the coming year.”

Veeam is 100% channel-driven and relies on its partners to grow its market share in the Middle East and attract new customers. “We also count on marketing our activities by participating in events and increasing our presence field which allow us to grow in further.”

“Veeam plans to increase its presence in the Middle East,” declared Gregg, specifically in Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Oman, Qatar and Kuwait by further investing in people, channels and marketing. “We have double digit growth in the region and we plan to continue on this pace, hopefully after the great feedbacks we received from GITEX we will also have double digit growth in the coming year,” he said.

Nevertheless, VeeamOn has been a great success to both organizers and attendees. Next VeeamOn will take place in New Orleans, Louisiana from 15 – 18 May 2017 - Save the date!
