By Mahek Punjabi

Eleni Tsolakou joined Rotana Hotels and Resorts in March 2011 in Yas Island Rotana and Centro Yas Island. She is a highly accomplished Executive Manager with extensive international and multi-national experience gained in the hospitality industry in Europe, Africa, Asia and the Middle East. We find out more about her.

I have been in the hospitality industry for more than 15 years now and I have held more than 4 managerial positions before becoming a General Manager. I have worked in Africa, Greece, Indonesia and the Middle East where I lead complex hotels at both development and opening stages.

I developed a passion for this industry at an early age. I started working in hotels during the holidays while still studying and it was then I got interested in travel and hospitality and this interest only grew in time. It is a challenging but extremely rewarding occupation. Working with all the nationalities all over the world is something I always enjoyed and what keeps me attached to hospitality.

Experience at Khalidiya Rotana

I have moved to Khalidiya Palace Rayhaan by Rotana 6 months ago from another Rotana property in Dubai, where I also held a General Manager position. As each hotel is different in terms of challenges, potentials and strengths, Khalidiya Palace Rayhaan by Rotana’s experience so far was very positive as the hotel offers high standards of service and guest satisfaction, and successfully attracts visitors who come to the city for different purposes of stay, ranging from families to couples who wish to experience the modern and traditional ways of Arabian life with our Rayhaan brand.

Overcoming Challenges

Hospitality is a 24/7 industry, and with career growth you face more challenges each day. The biggest challenge is and will be the ability to multi-task as life and careers demand more. That is why I always chose carefully where and with whom I work. Rotana gives many opportunities to anyone who wants to make progress. Their focus on both staff and guests is something to be proud of. To overcome all challenges I always rely on my willingness to learn and the great passion I have for my job. When needed I asked and had support.  I believe that a positive attitude is the key for everything in life, and helps us move forward.

CSR Projects

Our CSR engagement has a very diverse outreach to our community. On a monthly basis we collaborate with individuals, private business and organizations in order to help the cause/person in need. We have worked with Operation Smile, Zayed Higher Organization for Special Needs People, Sheikh Khalifa Medical City, Makina Communications, The Body Shop, Noor Training Centre for Children with Special Needs, SANID, Red Crescent, 7 Emirates Run, The Bosom Buddies Breast Cancer Group, The Make a Wish Foundation and many more, in order to help in situations of poverty, sickness, diseases and human suffering, while promoting health and showing support for social and community infrastructure, the environment, arts and sports.

Advice to Women in Hospitality
